The Mid-Engined, Mid-Eighties Series (MEMES) is the fifth official season of Really Rubbish Racing competition. The championship will run on Forza Motorsport 4, using a range C 425 mid-engined, rear wheel drive sports cars equalised in performance by season organiser and 2-time Really Rubbish Racing champion, RumblyLizard.
Back in season 1 we had stock car races. In particular we had a race at Mugello with the Lancia Stratos. The nature of the high kerbs and the mid-engined weight balance meant that the car was a handful. I ended up having a race long battle with Smifaye being terrified of losing control at the car at each corner. It was fantastic.
This season has been designed around this concept. Mid Engined cars with weight distributions that mean they are difficult to drive. Tracks with punishing corners. Tense wheel to wheel racing, great fun. I noticed that most of the cars in Forza that were suitable are mid-eighties cars. I thought this theme would be great for our liveries. But more on that later.

Cars
The cars of MEMES.
For races 1 and 2, your car choice is limited to the car of the week. Your choice for race 3 is dictated by you. Please see the forums for the car choice thread.
Upgrades & Tuning
There will be no upgrades or tuning in this season. You must use the prescribed tune for the cars. These are all available from RumblyLizard's storefront. They will not be gifted out as they are to be 'locked'.
Liveries
There are a few set rules on liveries this season.
1. Original designs only. An 'homage' is fine, but a copycat livery is not.
2. The theme of MEMES is 80's. Neon is encouraged. Awesome is required.
3. The season is sponsored by heroes of the 80's past - Kodak, Texaco and Goodyear. These logos must be present on the cars. You will be gifted the base paint scheme for each car for you to make a livery from (not to be modified). If you have not received the base paint scheme, please contact either Rumbly or Ajokay. Alternatively, ask in the forums.
Rules
Racing Rules
These cars and tunes have been chosen so that you can really race each other. Wheel to wheel, rubbing is racing. That said, the usual rules about dirty driving will be in place and I shall create a stewards post nearer the start of the season. Especially given the different strengths of the cars, fair racing is a necessity.
Championship Format
The Championship will consist of 7 Events, each containing 3 Rounds. Each round will consist of a Race. There will be one event per week for 7 consectutive weeks. The start date is Wednesday 2nd May 2012. Events alternate between Wednesday and Thursday each week.
Event Format
Each Event will consist of 3 Races, (known over the course of the season as Rounds), and will feature 3 different tracks. The grid will be random for every race unless there is a way to do an autocross event as qualifying. I haven't been able to figure this out though, so for now the grid is random.
Race 1
The first Race of each Event will be a stock car event. The idea with having a 7 week championship is that there will be 1 stock race per event for a different car each week. Therefore week 1 might be stock Lancia Stratos' at Mugello for example. The order and the tracks are unconfirmed though I intend to have a full list written up next week.
Race 2
The second Race of each Event will be a second race featuring the cars of race 1. However, this time they will be upgraded. I shall provide these tunes to everyone over the coming weeks. For reference, they are using the same tunes as the ones in the club garage. Race 2 will usually be held at either the Top Gear Test Track or the Benchmark Test Track. Each week will feature a different layout of one of these. I do not particularly want to repeat the layouts though so it is possible that a third venue will be used. The idea is that this will be a simple layout. I know that people have struggled with learning 3 tracks per race, so this track will require little to no testing to understand. Lots of lines into wide corners, lots of overtaking going on hopefully.
Race 3
The third and final Race of each Event will be run using all of the cars featured in MEMES. They will all be upgraded as in the garage at the moment. As you will see, they all have different strengths and weaknesses, but over 1 lap they will set the same race times. I've tested these rigorously to make sure that no car has a clear advantage - and if they have a minor (i.e. less than 0.2 tenths) advantage then they will have the same disadvantage at another track later in the season. Which car will you be using? Read on further to see.
Points
Drivers
Points for drivers will be awarded from 1st to 14th places inclusive in all races.
Position | 1st | 2nd | 3rd | 4th | 5th | 6th | 7th | 8th | 9th | 10th | 11th | 12th | 13th | 14th |

Points | 25 | 21 | 18 | 15 | 12 | 10 | 8 | 7 | 6 | 5 | 4 | 3 | 2 | 1 |
Cars
Points for cars will be awarded from 1st to 14th places inclusive in all races. Only the top 2 cars of each type will score points for that car in any one race. If, for instance, 3 Renault 5 Turbos place 1st, 2nd and 3rd in a race, only the points for 1st and 2nd place will be counted. The 18 points for the 3rd place Renault 5 Turbo will be discounted, and no other car will score those 18 points.
Position | 1st | 2nd | 3rd | 4th | 5th | 6th | 7th | 8th | 9th | 10th | 11th | 12th | 13th | 14th |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Points | 25 | 21 | 18 | 15 | 12 | 10 | 8 | 7 | 6 | 5 | 4 | 3 | 2 | 1 |
Entry List
This is an individuals championship. There will be no 'teams' as such. That said, if you want to record your results on your team pages then that is fine. There will be a 'cars' championship where the top 2 results for each car are taken and added up to form a separate championship. If you drive the winning car, you will be eligible for a wiki achievement badge.
The provisional Entry list is as follows.
