Racing on the PC - Voice Chat

Postby ajokay » 06 Jul 2014, 21:00

We use TeamSpeak for our gaming communication needs!

Here are the instructions for download and using TeamSpeak

PC Client

1 - Go to www.teamspeak.com
2 - Click the Downloads link in the top right
3 - Choose TeamSpeak 3 Client (32 or 64 bit depending on your windows system, and obviously Mac OS or Linux if you're using them) and download it.
4 - Install TeamSpeak
5 - Set up your microphone and speakers and calibrate them
6 - If you wish to, set yourself a push-to-talk (PTT) button (highly recommended).
7 - From the Connections menu in the top left of the main TeamSpeak window, select Connect
8 - in the Server Address box, type: ts.realishracing.com or 94.16.122.140
9 - In the Nickname box, type your name.
10 - In the Server Password box, type our usual password.
11 - Click Connect

Mobile/Tablet app

In the Label box type the nickname you want to use for the channel. 'RlyR' would be a good start.
In the Server Address box, type: ts.realishracing.com or 94.16.122.140
In the Server Password box, type our usual password.
In the Nickname box, type your Gamertag/SteamID/name/whatever.
Set your Identity to whichever device you are using.

You can switch channels by tapping and holding down on a channel. Try to use a wired or Bluetooth headphone/mic device as using loudspeaker will result in echoing.

You will now be connected to the Reaish Racing TeamSpeak server. The server contains different rooms. The Pit Garage is where you will be dumped when you first join the channel. This is the perfect place for general chat. There are specific rooms set up for different games, should you wish to chat to those playing the same game as you. Just double click the channel name to join that channel.

Have fun.

Did I read somewhere about some ports you can open up for this? Just got my BT router so wanting to get it set up as best I can.

EDIT: Found ports 9987,10011,30033 on PortForward. That correct?

So I'm looking to sort a few issues with Teamspeak ready to join in on Race 07.

The main problem I have is that when any communication comes through when I have Race 07 open it causes the screen to shake, which gets worse the more people talk. It got a bit unbearable in SuperPrix practice which prompted me to not use it during the event, which caused a few problems to say the least!

I'm using a Xbox 360 controller and headset, so would it be best to switch to a USB headset instead? And what advice can people give me on ports?

I use the 360 controller and headset and I don't have any of your problems. At least I've never noticed if I have. Strange why you have it though.

It might be because I'm using an imac?

My microphone is jammed on all the time now. I've tried push to talk and voice activation at the highest settings and it's still jammed on. I've re-installed the program and used different USB sockets for my headset but it's still stuck on. I'll go and get a new headset tomorrow as my headset is pretty ruined but if not, prepare for some heavy breathing or constant unmuting sounds in my future teamspeaking.

Same thing happened to me. I uninstalled it, reinstalled it and then said "only install for this user" then it worked.

Right, I've set up my headset and TeamSpeak, but all the sound is coming through the headset. How do I get the game sound to come out my TV/speakers?

You need to set your headset as the 'default communications device' in the sound options.

I've installed TeamSpeak, connected to the RlyR server, with a Push-to-Talk button, but my headset isn't being picked :/

I'm using my 360 headset, plugged into my 360 controller. In the setup wizard, instead of getting a red/green light for the strength of the signal, I get a light blue light when I press the PTT button.

Any ideas?

Have you selected the headset as the primary device in Teamspeak? Sound obvious but I've fallen foul of it once or twice :)

Just saw Alex's post about trying it out for GT6.

I think with my home setup a headset + iPhone combo might work best, rather than setting up laptop etc.

Has anyone here tried using TeamSpeak on a smartphone?

I generally by habit disable all other playback devices when using my headset to avoid any input output conflicts. Its a lot easier for trouble shooting any problems as you only have one active playback device to deal with when they occur. I did have an issue after my upgrade to the new motherboard but once disabled all other playback devices headset worked without a hitch then just switch the optical back on when I want sound through the HIFI system.

You might want to try my suggestion Lin including disabling all other recording devices as well to see if it eliminates all that feed back we get from your mic.

For those using the mobile app, things are laid out a little differently:

Label: this is essentially the nickname you want to use for the channel. I set mine to 'RlyR'.

Address: this is equivalent to Server Address in the OP.

Server Password: self explanatory.

Nickname: your in-channel name which appears. I set mine to Craighypheno (via phone) so people are aware that I am on the phone and not on the PC.

Channel: your username.

Channel password: your password.

Identity: I set this to Android default. I'm assuming this is different on iOS and so on.

You can switch channels by tapping and holding down on a channel. I would recommend using a Bluetooth device as using loudspeaker appears to result in echoing.

Voice chat worked fine for me when we did a practice session. Only thing new people need to be aware of is that their headset isn't picking up engine noises etc from the TV and causing a slight echo.

I thought they were the TeamSpeak username and password respectively, but it doesn't appear that you require one, so ignore that bit.

Edit: I just tried it with those two left blank and it still works, so I'd just ignore those.

Edit 2: Figured out what those two are for. If you want to bypass The Pit Garage and go straight to whichever game you are on, input the game into the Channel section. Obviously channels with passwords will require the password put into the Channel Password section.

Apologies, the server has been down today because I turned it off last night and forgot to turn it on again.

Teamspeak should now be working if you wish to test it out this evening in GT6
