Team Colours wiki template - how to make one

Postby ajokay » 20 Apr 2012, 10:03

There's a space on your team bio page for a bar of colour/s denoting your team's usual racing colour scheme. It's in the infobox between Base and Notable Games.

They're nice to have, and here's how to make one.

You can lump all the code into your infobox, but it's long and messy, so I've been following the process of making a template page and linking to that in your infobox.

First make a new page on the wiki with the name Template:TeamNameHereColours (eg. Template:POWAColours)

once the page is created, click edit. Here's the coding bit:

<span style="padding:1px 14px; background-color:#E5FF00;"></span>

Each band of colour is represented by the code above. The second value in the padding section indicates the width of that bar of colour. The value in the background-color section is the colour that bar will be. It can either be in hex (as above) in the form #000000 - #FFFFFF (which allow for more colours), or it can be an html colour name (which are easier to remember).

The first value in the padding section should always remain 1. Overall the bar should be about 30 pixels wide. So if your team runs in one colour (like Ferrari) the code would look something like this:

<span style="padding:1px 30px; background-color:red;"></span>

If your team is Ajokay Motorsport and runs in a specific shade of purple, with a small helping of white and black, the code would look like this:

<span style="padding:1px 16px; background-color:#3c00be;"></span><span style="padding:1px 7px; background-color:white;"></span><span style="padding:1px 7px; background-color:black;"></span>

Each bar of colour requires its own <span></span> section, and simply add one after another to build up bands of colour. The three widths add up to 30 (16, 7, 7), and the colours are a hex purple (#3c00be) and 2 easy to remember html colour names (white, black). which ends up looking like this.

The colours and widths are very variable, so if you always run a black livery with 2 thin yellow stripes down the centre, you could have 13 pixels of black, 1 pixel of yellow, 2 pixels of black, 1 pixel of yellow, and 13 more pixels of black.

Once that's all done, save the edit, return to your team profile page and add the code:

{{TeamNameHereColours}} (eg. {{POWAColours}} )

to end up with something like this

Have fun.

You can make as many bars of colour as you like. So long as their combined overall length is not more than 30 pixels. Goteki's has 4, I think.

That'll be where I was going wrong then.
