Realish Rally Chronicle Round 1 - H1 Argentina

Postby camp_bell » 03 Mar 2021, 19:09

Welcome to the first round of Realish Rally Chronicle! We're going all the way back to the 1960s to start, driving a selection of classic FWD machines through the rough Argentine stages.

You will need to join the Realish Racing Dirt Rally Club here to take part.

Cars: H1
Location: Catamarca Province, Argentina
Stages: 6 (4 short, 2 long)
Conditions: Mixed
Start: 6/3/21 @ 00:00
End: 19/3/21 @ 23:59

You will only have one run, however the stage order is below (and full details of conditions, etc will be in game) and you don't need to do all six stages in one sitting.

Shakedown
Las Juntas
Miraflores
Camino a Coneta (Wet)
Short service area
Calle de los puentes a la inversa
El Rodeo
Camino de acantilados y rocas inverso (Night)

You should be able to rejoin but you might get a 15/30 minute placeholder time for a stage of you disconnect before the end of it.

If it disconnects after a stage (incl. at a service) you should be fine in the majority of the case, since it does save and export your time to the API more often than not. In order to be completely sure, you'll want to navigate to the website and check if the time of your last completed stage is visible. If it is, you should be able to continue without a DNF worth 15min for a short stage, and 30min for a long stage.

However in the case that this time isn't visible on the website, or if the disconnect happens before the stage, but after or during loading the stage, it will give you a DNF worth the aforementioned amount of time based on the stage length.

I hope this sufficiently explains it, I've been dealing with it as an organiser myself, so I've kinda learned to explain this pretty thoroughly. :)

managed to reproduce what happened - for context, the game wouldn't prompt me to respawn back on stage with a penalty, so I tried forcing it to do so by driving further away.

Happy with the run overall, but still expect to end up 2nd...

I seem to have a good driving style for the Mini, and came across a good setup too so felt pretty good going into this - also plenty of time for practice which always helps in this game.

Turns out my biggest mistake of the whole run was pretty much at the first available opportunity to make a mistake - getting caught out to slightly different surface conditions to what I was used to and losing the weight balance of the car at the first braking zone of the first stage. I was then a little bit cautious over the next couple of sectors, so all in all that one error would account for a decent chunk of my deficit to Mark G / @BlueSpearman if not all of it as we've then been pretty close on stages 2 and 3.

Had a bit of a gap before finishing the event off. Somewhat oddly the game claimed I had zero damage to repair at service despite a big dent in the front of the car. Stage 4 went really, really well and I put in a time faster than I'd managed in practice so that was satisfying. I apparently came very close to mucking it up though:

The two final stages were decent times, but a little bit scrappy and I definitely left a bit of time on the table. Overall though, I can't really complain to have had a quick and largely error free event. Now just to wait and see what Mark G and anyone else yet to run can manage...

That was brilliant fun. Let's just race Minis all season.

Spent the first three stages separated from @carrot1401 by less than a second. Lost a bit to him in 4 and 5 and went into the final stage about 6 seconds down, but decided if I pushed like hell I could possibly bridge the gap. So I did. And finished the rally 0.077 seconds behind him :)

So close, but currently P8 with a few hours to go. All being well, my first points finish in anything all year.

A pretty good run in a class of cars I don't really enjoy (I need the power!) Fell down a hill in stage 3 and had to reset but that was as bad as it got, though that and a few smaller mistakes probably cost me an outside chance of points.

I just came here to post the exact same thing. My word! And I thought finishing 3.2 seconds behind @PJTierney was close! Looks like the damage was done in stage 4 (9.3 seconds) as you actually gained 3.5 seconds in stage 5!

Was a fun rally. Currently in the process of cutting my replay together, should be up this afternoon!

Congratulations @BlueSpearman, picking up where he left off last season with a win, though only 12 seconds ahead of @supernicebob. Looks like another close battle at the front. @SereneLogic took a strong 3rd, though nearly a minute behind the winner. The Mini Cooper was unsurprisingly the most popular choice in this class, though @sin_racing was the top Lancia in 4th while @Mosaegir heroically dragged the DS 21 into the points in 9th!

Top 10
  1. @BlueSpearman 28:02.065
  2. @supernicebob +12.629
  3. @SereneLogic +59.615
  4. @sin_racing +1:27.637
  5. @lazaros18 +1:46.288
  6. @PJTierney +2:03.855
  7. @carrot1401 +2:07.085
  8. @Boovolari +2:07.162
  9. @Mosaegir +2:51.917
  10. @nea +2:29.917

A reminder to new members that we are using the standard Realish Racing points system, which is points for the top 10 distributed 15-12-10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1. Full results will be released on the website.

The next rally is with the same cars at Greece and is live now. Remember you need to use the same car that you used for this rally.

P6 isn't bad considering I binned it on Stage 3 and was generally slow in the MINI.

It's the RWD and Group B cars where I feel I'll be strongest :)

Congrats yet again to @BlueSpearman - that's back to back events where we finished 12s apart with Monte at the end of last season! As I thought it was pretty close on S4 but I lost a bit more time on the last two stages. The pace at the front has been phenomenal. I guess not many people have done these stages in this class of cars, but our times from S4 would get in the top five of the time trial board! Would love to see an overlay of our two runs being just a quarter of a second apart over almost 7 minutes...

Hopeful of another good run in Greece - scene of the only time someone other than Mark G won a rally last season - but I expect to be under more pressure if some of the drivers behind in this event have a cleaner time of it.

Shout out to @Mosaegir for getting that beautiful Citroen whale into the top 10! Great to see lots of people taking part overall too.

Delighted to see so many entries and people saying they've enjoyed the event. Hero of the rally definitely has to go to @Mosaegir for getting that DS21 into the points, that's crazy. Villian of the rally (and the next one) goes to @camp_bell for making us do the two twistiest rallies of the season in the cars with the slowest steering racks. My poor arms.

Perfect result in what I was expecting to be my second worst (after H3) class, so holding out for top 5's in the first three events and hopefuly challenging for wins in the Grp. B and A cars is the plan. Also the first time I've won an opening round so it's nice to not be coming from behind like with the previous two championships.

I'm a bit more confident I can be on the podium in Greece now, but @supernicebob was hard to keep up with there last year and 12 seconds isn't a lot to win by so winning there will be a serious achievement.

I love my big blue barge and am I allowed to enter it into all the rallies?

It saved me at one point by instead of pogo-sticking into oblivion, having the world's laziest barrel roll onto a recoverable position.

Thankfully my disconnect was after stage 2 so I was able to continue. Which I did by getting stuck about 4 corners into stage 3. Had a fairly clean run after that but the only way I can drive FWD is by using the handbrake instead of the footbrake... :?
