Welcome to Realish Rally Chronicle

Welcome to Realish Rally Chronicle, the fourth Realish Rally Championship. We’re back on Dirt Rally 2.0 but this time we’re taking a trip through rally history. Over the course of the season we’ll be driving four classes from the 1960s to the 1990s two rounds in each. To win this championship, you will need to adapt to four very different types of car.

As before, each rally will be six stages with one short service area in the middle. Rallies will run from Midnight on Saturday for two weeks (ie, until Midnight two Fridays later). You have only one attempt, however the stage order will be posted in the event thread and you can quit out between stages if you wish.

You must use the same car for both rallies – for example, if you choose the lovely Citroen DS for Round 1, you must also use it for Round 2, and so on. There is no teams championship so drivers are free to pick whichever car they want for each class.

There is a mix of DLC and you can enter many of the events with just the base game, however, you will need all the DLC to enter every round and to have a full selection of cars.

Note you will also need to join the Dirt Rally 2.0 Club in order to compete.

Historic H1

Round 1: Argentina (6/3/21 - 19/3/21)
Round 2: Greece (20/3/21 - 2/4/21)

Early rallies were tough events for tough cars, so we’re starting with two of the most demanding rallies in the game. Driving these old cars is all about keeping up your momentum and resisting the urge to overdrive.

Historic H3 (RWD)
Round 3: Scotland (3/4/21 - 16/4/21)
Round 4: USA (17/4/21 – 30/4/21)

The 1970s saw classic RWD machines such as the Datsun 240Z and Lancia Stratos take centre stage. Scotland and the USA are both fast gravel rallies which should allow for plenty of powersliding action.

Group B (4WD)
Round 5: Germany (1/5/21 - 14/5/21)
Round 6: Poland (15/5/21 – 28/5/21)

Group B was an iconic period with manufacturers spending big on cars with huge power and 4WD but still fairly primitive mechanics. Both Germany and Poland have room for these cars to stretch their legs – if you dare!

Group A (4WD)
Round 7: Australia (29/5/21 - 11/6/21)
Round 8: New Zealand (12/6/21 – 25/6/21)

While Group A cars might lack the outright power of their predecessors, the combination of antilag and more advanced chassis makes them nearly as fast in practice. We finish with two deceptively tough rallies down under.

Points will be awarded to the top 10 finishers on the same 15-12-10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 used both last season and currently used in regular Realish seasons.

Interesting format 8-)

Will the Club feature all events in a single Championship or are you doing one by one again?

It feels like a better idea to have it all set up before Season start.

It'll all be set up as one championship this time (like the Snowman Cup), though the points will be calculated separately since we're using the same points system as the regular seasons.

Excellent, having the in-game countdown helps.

Are you cool with me sharing this Championship on the Codemasters Forums?

I won't spread it to the massive platforms like official Twitter or anything, but a few forum people might swing by and take part.

The championship standings and finalised full rally results will be saved in this Google Drive folder (I will try to update the championship standings soon after the end of each event). They will also be posted on RealishRacing.com.

Remember that you can also view real time results on the Dirt Rally 2.0 website.

@camp_bell With the season wrapping up this week, any word on when the next event or season will be?

I’m guessing August or September for a new season, maybe?

Now that the season's over, some thoughts.

What I liked:
  • The 2 week cadence and Friday night finish times were nice to have.
    .
  • Having the Club all set up from the first day of the season meant you could preview Stages ahead of time.
    .
  • The event lengths were good too, 6 Stages can be gone through in just over an hour. Good for streaming.
    .
  • The class selections were mostly good.
    .
  • Having the season in the first place; it's the only way for console players to take part in Realish Racing.

What I didn't like:
  • Having to switch between cars; it forces more practice upon people if they want to do well whereas in Season 3 you could grow with the car over time. I really liked that Citroen by the time I was done.
    .
  • The inconsistency in event setups. Some rallies would have 2 Longs and a Short on a stint, some the opposite, some no Longs at all.
    .
  • Road conditions (Stage Degradation) not being known in advance.
    .
  • Service Times were a little too short.
    .
  • Not having a Wiki  (I get it, you guys have moved on)

Some suggestions for the future:
  • If a class has a "fastest car"*, I'd like to see anybody that got a podium in the previous season be forbidden from using it. That should not only open up some diversity, but the possibility of other drivers having a better chance at success.
    .
  • Avoid Poland, it's got the worst track limits in the game.
    .
  • Single car class (and car choice per driver) for the entire season.
    .
  • A RWD championship would be nice, Group B or Rally GT.
    .
  • An R5 championship would also be fun as it's the most popular class in the game, but only if the "OP car ban" I suggested above is in place.
    .
  • A more consistent structure to each event. One potential idea is the "loop" format I've seen in other communities.
Essentially, you pick 1 Long and 2 Shorts and have that as a stint, and then after service you repeat those 3 Stages (tweak time/weather/degradation accordingly), followed by another service, and then repeat once more. (tldr: Long/Short/Short + Long/Short/Short + Long/Short/Short)
The end result is that the drivers get more confident and faster as the rally goes on, and don't have to practice as much beforehand.
    .
  • A more consistent structure as regards weather and Stage Degradation would be handy too, along with all the details being published at the start of the season. Essentially you screenshot the event creation screens as you go through the calendar, like this: https://dirtrally2.dirtgame.com/News/20 ... ampionship
    .
  • A community poll on the locations to use in the next one. Multiple choice, most popular ones get picked.
    .
  • A Power Stage at the end of the rally. One way to go about it is to have a very long service (full repair essentially) and the shortest Stage straight after it. Points for top 5 times, and the time obviously contributes to the overall rally total too.

*Based on my work on the game's esports scene, these would be:
  • Group B 4WD: Lancia Delta S4
  • Group A: Lancia Delta HF
  • 2000cc: Citroen C4
  • R2: Ford Fiesta R2
  • NR4: Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X
  • R5: Ford Fiesta R5 MKII

Final championship standings. At some point in the next week or so I will go back through the results and tidy up any DNFs who quit mid-rally so don't appear on the final results screen, but these standings won't change as a result of that.
